Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extra-inning matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a aggregate over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable contest averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a 16% increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series drew 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete American viewership was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
